Sonlight Resources Institute (SRI) is a multifaceted, Christian Non-profit organization that has continuously served communities in and around the Midlands of South Carolina for over three decades. Headquartered at 4949 Two Notch Road in Columbia, SC, the organization has branches in Blythewood. SC and Northeastern Columbia, SC. Our constituent programs and projects include, but are not limited to 1) a Private school (Sonlight Heritage Academy) that addresses the needs of K through 12th grade; 2) a Veterans housing program that provides housing and living assistance to veterans of the US Military/Armed Forces; 3) an assisted living facility and program for elderly and special needs clients; 4) a Health and Wellness center that provides the following services: Nutritional counseling, physical activity training and counseling, and health and temperance instruction (an education and behavior philosophy based on the eight natural healers – nutrition, exercise, water, sunshine, temperance, air, rest, and trust in God or faith). In addition to being 100% grassroots oriented and community-based, the Institute is rooted in community and strategic partnerships and collaborations that foster understanding, cooperation and coordination of efforts and services. These partnerships maximize synergy, minimize duplication and waste, and optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of resources and efforts.

In a country where public taxation supports education, a private school would be unworthy of existence if it did not offer the student something of value that he/she could not find in the numerous other schools maintained at public expense. Education has a broader base than a particular course of study. It also involves the character development and personal adjustment of the individual as a responsible, participating person in his/her community and nation. Our mission today, as has always been, is the harmonious development of the whole child-physically, mentally, spiritually, and socially- in a non-hostile environment.

Believing that God is the source of all true knowledge, and that the fear of Him is the beginning of wisdom, Sonlight Heritage Academy emphasizes the need to see the hand of God in all areas of study: in the Humanities, because history is really HIS-story; in the Sciences, because all true science speaks of Him who set in operation the laws governing our world. Sonlight Heritage Academy is not owned or operated by any denominational body, but has been established to provide a Christian Education for students, grades Kindergarten thru 12. It fully recognizes its responsibility to guide the student in developing a meaningful relationship with his God, his country, community, family and him/herself. Central to its Philosophy of Education is the belief in God as the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe, and the recognition that Man is the Child of God and a steward of this world.

OUR OBJECTIVE

In order to maintain high standards and ideals, emphasis is placed on the attainment of excellence in a balanced program of physical, mental, spiritual and social education.

A. Physical

To show the student the importance of a sound body, the Academy places particular emphasis on the basic facts concerning health and maintenance. We do this by encouraging the student to develop healthy habits in the areas of diet, rest, self-discipline and exercise. We teach our students how to participate in physical activity for the benefit of health, showing students the strong relationship between a healthy body and a sound spiritual and intellectual development.

B. Mental

The Academy gives particular attention to the development of basic mental skills by assisting students to speak clearly; read efficiently and write legibly. We give our students a strong scholastic foundation in order to continue with formal education. Students are encouraged to develop intellectual curiosity, habits of accuracy, self-discipline and the responsibility necessary to become a useful citizen.

C. Spiritual

Our objective is to help students develop a Christian philosophy based on spiritual principles. We recognize that the life of Christ is the perfect example for all to emulate. We give our students the practical and theoretical knowledge of God’s plan for our world, and help students realize that cooperation with God’s plan for their lives brings about the greatest satisfaction. By this, the student is acquainted with the eschatology of events and his/her position to these events.

D. Social

Students are encouraged to develop positive social behavior in society. We assist students in the development of concern for his/her fellowman, recognizing the intrinsic value of every individual. Students are encouraged to recognize and accept civic responsibilities. This in turn helps the student develop the characteristics essential for building strong, stable homes and families.
